What makes me tick.

SMAK media is dedicated to writing professional copy in a creative way. With expertise in creative writing, blogging, editing, and social media management I am qualified to tackle a variety of jobs that require attention to detail and the ability to think outside the box. I have a background in marketing management and creative copywriting and look to offer my current and future clients a professional company to satisfy any written need.

A note from the founder:
One could say I have a masters in writing. After 6 years of full time school I have received a certificate in general studies and in marketing management from Mount Royal College in Calgary AB, a youth leadership diploma from the Haven Institution on Gabriola Island BC , and an applied degree in creative advertising majoring in copywriting at Humber College in Toronto ON.

Where I have been

I look at it like this:
I am a business women through Marketing Management,
A well rounded scholar through General Studies,
A people person through Youth Leadership,
And a Creative writer and thinker through Creative advertising.
From psychology to natural science to marketing,
I have a wide range of knowledge in numerous genres.

While completing my degree I freelanced as a writer/editor and marketing consultant for a variety of small businesses. Also, in the summer of 2010, I interned as a junior copywriter at TBA Digital in Vancouver BC.

Not only am I an academic and devoted worker, I am a world traveler. Aside from my various living arrangements throughout the country, I have traveled around Europe, Mexico, and the United States.

When I was 16 I toured Europe in a ringette tournament through Germany, Sweden, Finland, and the Czech Republic. I found this to be an eye opening experience with many learned lessons and great adventures to take away. From 18-22 I visited Scotland, Mexico, Hawaii, Florida, Washington, and New York state, and at 23 I cruised the western Caribbean.

I believe travel to be a right of passage for maturity and personal evolution. How can one understand who they are without first knowing who others are in comparison? How would you know light if it were never dark, or happiness if there were never sadness? Our lives are based on comparison and contrast, and with that I label myself as a creative writer, deep thinker, and motivated worker.

Pop culture.

It may be because I am a weekly viewer of the hit series Desperate Housewives, but I could not be more pleased with the voice they chose for Mrs. M&M. Vanessa Williams's voice is sultry and sophisticated and offers up enough confidence to make a feminist proud.

M&M has always had a strong campaign when it comes to 'Red' and 'Yellow', but with the incorporation of the sassy 'Brown' this ad takes the cake.

This years M&M Super Bowl spot pleases both sexes equally. Women: A strong, confident woman is portrayed through the character of 'Brown'. She pleases women in a number of ways. 1) Even though she appears 'naked', her style and attitude tell us that she is fashion forward and in charge.

2) She shuts a guy down instantly and without a flinch when he hints at the fact that she is anything less then superior. and 3) she has the attention of two beautiful woman. This M&M is everything the modern day woman wants to be.

Men: 'Red' is a fun, carefree, outgoing M&M. He is confident and looking for a good time. There is no hesitation when given the chance to 'get naked' for the party and he entertains all those watching. Shaking and wiggling and shaking some more, this M&M has what it takes to draw out a laugh be the life of the party. 'Brown' may not have been impressed, but the rest of us were.

Overall, this ad covered all of its bases. It pleased women, it entertained men, and it told us about a new product on the market without us feeling as if were were simply being sold to. The story was fun, the candy is delicious, and the script was suggestive. It also doesn't hurt that they used one of the most popular dance songs on the top 40 list. I'll wiggle if you wiggle.
